Alternatives To Coffee
By Andrew Gubb
I strongly believe that coffee and its like aren't healthy, so some alternatives to coffee are in order. Alternatives to coffee should be caffeine free and healthy, as well as taste good (or, alternatively, give you the energy boost you look for with normal coffee, but without the side effects). Read on to find out more.
Alternatives To Coffee You Should Avoid
Decaf coffee is not a good alternative to normal coffee. It is neither healthy nor caffeine free. As this article by Dr. Anita Pepi explains, the process of decaffeination uses extremely toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde. Gardeners will tell you not to use decaf coffee to water your plants as it will kill them!
Decaf coffee also contains caffeine still. So it's not even a good alternative caffeine-level wise.
Finally, it doesn't taste as good! If decaf coffee is your best alternative to normal coffee, I'd say stick with the old drink. There are better alternatives, however.
Chicory Coffee And Grain Coffee
Chicory coffee and grain coffees such as barley coffee can be okay alternatives to coffee if what you love is the “toasted” taste of normal coffee. I think they are decent, but are probably not as healthy as the other alternatives I'm going to present to you. They were worth a mention, though, and I'd say if they are the only way you can avoid drinking normal coffee they are a big step up for health.
Teas And Infusions As Alternatives To Coffee
Don't worry, I'm building up to the really good alternatives to coffee.
Teas and infusions (particularly: caffeine/teine free teas) are a nice way of scratching that same itch as coffee. They are hot and can make a relaxing ritual to drink. They can often be mildly stimulant without being unhealthy as in the case of Yogi Tea or ginger tea. (Ginseng is supposed to be healthy too, but personally my body gives me the feeling of it being an unhealthy sort of stimulant).
If you're stumped for some interesting caffeine free teas to try, here are my selections:

The Best Alternative To Coffee: Teecino
So now for my personal favourite alternative to coffee: Teecino.
Teecino was invented by a famous food professional who was hired to create a perfect imitation of coffee. It contains a mixture of carob, almonds, dates and a few other ingredients, and both in appearance and taste closely mimics coffee. Actually, I think it tastes better than coffee!

Alternatives To Coffee As A Stimulant
Finally, you might want to know what you can have as an alternative to the stimulant effect of coffee. I wrote an article, “Natural Energy Drinks”, to provide you with just that information. Try having those drinks instead of coffee, tea, mate, or commercial energy drinks. You will feel much healthier and more balanced.
Apart from the drinks mentioned (ginger, lemon, and cilantro), try making yourself a fresh orange juice or a fruit smoothie for breakfast in the morning. Fruit is full of life energy and is a great way of getting you moving. Actually, I use it to keep me full of energy all day round!

It's a personal thing, and to be honest I think you have to like it as chicory, rather than liking it as a coffee alternative, if you get what I mean.

I tried chicory coffee, but I never did like the taste.
