Can You Eat Too Many Bananas

By

I don't think you can eat too many bananas, in principle. There is some controversy about this because bananas contain potassium and some would expect that excess potassium would be a danger for the body. There is also some controversy because bananas contain a lot of sugar, or because people think that fruit in general is something you should limit.

Let me get this straight: the sugar in fruit is not dangerous like other sugar, and fruit should not be limited. As for bananas, there is nothing wrong with eating as many of them as you can fit into your stomach.

Bananas For Weight Loss

Dole, a big company involved in the distribution of bananas, once made a marketing campaign with a simple message: β€œEat a bunch, lose a bunch.” It's so true – and I swear I'm not affiliated with Dole :)

Any sort of fruit is an incredible way to lose weight. The more you manage to fill up on fruit calories, the less calories in general you are likely to eat. And even if you get as many or MORE calories by eating fruit, you will definitely lose weight. It's a bizarre truth but certain beyond all doubt. If you want proof, go to 30 Bananas A Day and check out the before and after photos of people who have gone on fruit-based diets. (The name, 30 Bananas A Day, is not an exaggeration – it's indicative of how people on this diet eat).

Too Many Bananas

So can you eat too much bananas? Not at all. 30 bananas a day, for instance, is totally healthy. (This would provide your calorie requirements for that day, assuming you did some exercise).

It's not only healthy but it's positively therapeutic. People often go on fruit based diets to heal themselves of diseases or to prevent future conditions. They also enjoy the extra feeling of positivity and wellbeing which they enjoy in their long periods of good health.

Potassium In Bananas

I don't see that anyone who eats a lot of bananas on this diet has a problem with too much potassium. Actually, I think very few people out there will ever have a problem with too much potassium. Too much salt (sodium) is a problem, and a common one, but only because we eat masses of it on a standard diet. We would be very unlikely to come close to those massive amounts with potassium, even from potassium rich foods such as bananas. This difference is by scales of magnitude.

In fact, potassium from bananas helps us heal the sodium/potassium balance in our bodies, if anything. Too much sodium as from salt is a problem most of all because the body needs the sodium levels in our blood to be in a delicate balance with the potassium levels. So by getting in extra potassium, we will be healing the issue of excessive salt intake bit by bit. (A fruit-based diet is the only diet which makes salt unnecessary for food to be appetising, by the way. Even if you don't go over to the fruit-based diet 100%, you can rest assured that any fruit meals you have are meals that won't pile extra salt into your blood).

Can You Eat Too Much Bananas

So I don't think you can eat too much bananas. Actually, I think most people's problem is that they eat too little, and too little fruit in general.

Some people might find bananas hard to digest, which is a different kettle of fish, though. If you find bananas hard to digest, try letting them ripen more (they should have black spots and peel very easily), and if that doesn't work, just eat some other kind of fruit.

Just don't let fruit-phobia stop you from consuming bucketloads of the healthiest type of food around. Really, there is no way of overdoing it on fruit, and all too many ways of underdoing it.

Go bananas! :)
